The National Women’s History Museum is thrilled to announce our collaboration with E Street Cinema for a special screening of Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story. An Austrian immigrant and Hollywood icon in the 1930s and 1940s, Lamarr was best known for her glamorous good looks, but off-screen she was an avid inventor. Directed by Alexandra Dean and produced by Adam Haggiag, Bombshell explores how Lamarr was considered “too pretty to be smart” and how her uncredited inventions helped perfect a radio guidance system for Allied torpedoes during WWII. Lamarr’s untold story is a testament to the importance of women’s contributions to STEM history, and a perfect way to celebrate International Women’s Day! Join us on March 8th for this special event, including a pre-screening discussion with Dr. LaShauna Evans, Foreign Affairs Officer at the U.S. Department of State, on the importance of women and girls in STEM hosted by Council XIX, a movement of young visionaries who support the Museum’s efforts.
