National Press Club Reception previewing the NWHM’s Suffrage Parade Exhibit

Enjoy a private reception hosted by National Press Club President Angela Keane, a reporter for Bloomberg, and mingle with media professionals who are club members. The program will feature a noted media speaker, a panel discussion moderated by Newsweek/Daily Beast’s Eleanor Clift on the press’s impact on the suffrage movement and on women who are political candidates today. The Museum and Finnish Ambassador Rivta Koukku-Rode will host an exclusive private reception at the Embassy. Finland was a leader in giving women full voting rights and also in allowing women to stand as candidates in elections. The Ambassador wishes to honor the American Suffrage Centennial Celebration with this reception. The program will include a keynote address. Cocktail attire requested.

Learn about key figures from the historic suffrage parade and the role of the press in helping to turn public opinion in favor of women’s voting rights. Created by the National Women’s History Museum with support from the Sewall-Belmont House & Museum, the exhibit is free and open to the public. Press Club restaurant, The Fourth Estate, is on the 13th Floor and open to the public. The Metro Center Metro stop is two blocks away.
Three Generations Fighting for the Vote

Join the Parade: Honor the Suffragists

US Capitol, West Side Lawn
The National Women's History Museum invites YOU to participate in the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 1913 Woman Suffrage Parade in Washington, DC that was a turning point in the Suffrage Movement. The parade route will begin at the U.S. Capitol, proceed down Pennsylvania Avenue and assemble near the Washington Monument for closing remarks. The entire parade route is approx. 3.1 miles and will begin at 9:00 am. NWHM members will meet on the west side of the Capitol adjacent to Pennsylvania Avenue at 8:30am. Look for the NWHM banner.

Journalist Cokie Roberts, the author of two books on early American First Ladies, will talk with Professor Catherine Allgor, author of a recent biography on Dolley Madison and Director of Education at the Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens in San Marino, CA, on the challenges of telling the stories of the First Ladies. Doors will open at 5 PM, the program will begin at 5:30, followed by wine and cheese at 6:15. Near the Foggy Bottom and Farragut West Metro stops.
